Grace Hopper

- Grace Hopper was born on December 9, 1906. She died on January 1, 1992.
- She was born in New York and did most of her work in Massachusetts.
- She was a pioneer in developing computer technology. She helped devise UNIVAC I, the first commercial electronic computer, and naval applications for COBOL (common-business-oriented language). She became one of the first programmers to the Harvard Mark I. She also helped develop a compiler that was a precursor to the widely used COBOL language.
- She did NOT work with BASE-MATIC
- Interesting Fact: At the age of 79, she was the oldest officer on active U.S. naval duty.
