ENIAC
- The ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator And Computer) was introduced on February 15, 1946 and invented by John P Eckert and John W Mauchly .
- The ENIAC is important historically, because it laid the foundations for the modern electronic computing industry. It was in its time the largest single electronic apparatus in the world. It was the first to accomplish being the first general use computer. It was used for solving large, numerical problems through reprogramming.
- EDVAC followed the ENIAC. It was binary rather than decimal, and was designed to be a stored-program computer
- Interesting Fact: The machine was built out of nearly 17,500 vacuum tubes, 7,200 diodes, and many miles of wire. It was first meant to be used for calculating artillery for the military.
